Situated in a leafy suburban area two miles west of Leicester, Aigburth was donated to MHA by a local builder who had named the house after the area of Aigburth in Liverpool where he was married. The Home is situated in a couple of acres of gardens, which are enjoyed by the residents on a daily basis.
Like other Homes, Aigburth, which was originally built in 1908, has been extended and upgraded over time. In 1962, an extension was added to create the Home’s 32 bedrooms (eight of them nowadays designated for dementia care). These were all created as single, en suite rooms and remain larger, even now, than statutory regulations require – an indication of the organisation’s high standards at a time when many private care providers were still housing three people per bedroom.
